For whom is the insulin pump prescription recommended?

The prescription of an insulin pump is recommended for people with diabetes who:

  • Have elevated blood levels of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) not corrected with conventional methods of insulin treatment.
  • Suffer frequent and severe fluctuations in their glucose levels (hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia).
  • Repeatedly experience hypoglycemia during the night, or have difficulty perceiving hypoglycemia at any time of the day.
  • Have hyperglycemia when they get up in the morning without eating food ("Dawn phenomenon").
  • Want to have adequate glycemic control to reduce the risk of long-term complications without compromising their quality of life.
  • Plan to become pregnant in the near future.
  • Carry out their professional activity in different work shifts, or if they do it within the same hours, they have a different workload each day.
  • Engage in highly endurance activities or play competitive sports.
  • Travel frequently, especially if they have to cross different time zones.
